A wiki for players of Misty world, by players of Misty world.

Welcome to the Mist World Wiki!

Mist World is an audio game developed for the blind and vision impaired communities. This Wiki aims to bring together writers and enthusiasts who enjoy playing the game to create, collaborate content that can help new users. check out the game at this page We also offer a Mist World Gem and equipment enhancement simulator. Since the more recent updates to the game allow for replacing of custom sounds, Silvana (ID 5563), Valdete (Player ID 2683) + others are building a community sound pack. this link will lead you to the Sounds updater executable. alternative download link for SF updater.

Please note that some virus scanners may flag it, as it uses a command-line interface to show you questions or information and download it into the correct language used by the game. You do not need to run it as administrator though, and it will let you update your sounds to the latest community version with each run, so worth to keep in your game folder if it causes you no harm.

music and sound packs

A few music packs are currently available, created by player Neelix: Survive the Wild music pack Chinese (original) Mist world music Sims Music Pack, from Sims 1 to Sims 4 Snuggle Silencer pack by Afnan Nasir some Boss NPC voices in English by Neelix Sound Pack by odysseus ([https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/8dg22jtzk4f3za6xz1av2/h?rlkey=y3znobvopunl4y2scvt34bpy3&e=1&dl=1 find the original copy here for this sound pack)

Problems with new client?

the recent client after 2025 does not bundle the Microsoft Redistributable Runtime Library files. These are required for vocalizer to function, and they are part of the V2 package. However, if you experience issues where it says "startup error", Grab the 3 dll files for the Visual Studio runtime here and paste them into the main game folder. This is entirely optional, and should only be required if the game says, "startup error" and the top line mentions a missing dynamic link library.
Do not place and migrate the entire config folder from one client to the other. This will cause the new client to freeze. Only copy out the user, users, music, and sound folders, along with your language translation from inside the language folder, if you have changed it or are using another version.
The "users" folder contains your private messaging history. In most cases, it is safe to copy this when migrating, but if the game freezes for you after pressing "login" on the main screen, you may need to remove it but keep "user" with your password information. If you are still getting a freeze after hitting login, try extracting the portable copy using 7-zip and not Windows Explorer, or reinstalling the setup to a new location and then swapping in your files from the old game.

TTS engine work

Mist World does allow for the usage of Vocalizer in addition to Eloquence voices for built-in voice. This will get you positional audio via Vocalizer, instead of eloquence.

Vocalizer V2 package for Mist World Clients after 2025, includes Samantha and Allison as compact, Ava as full premium-high
Vocalizer V2 compact voices for all world languages, drive link provided by Mist World development team, useful if you want your language represented

After downloading, paste the "VL" folder into your Mist World main game directory, and restart the game to find them listed. Note that multiple issues exist, many of which have gotten resolved lately:

Saying "MP" as "Northern Mariana Islands" when read in conjunction with a number. These and other rules for preventing expansions of abbreviations can be downloaded here and placed into the Components folder inside of the ENU directory. All above packages with the exception of the compact voice collection are updated with this new rule file so you just need to grab this if you don't want to re-download the entire archive again.
for other languages, you will need Vocalizer expressive V2 voices, and to extract the NVDA-addon package to a temporary folder. Place the folder of the language inside the vl folder within the game that you initially copied. Expressive V1 voices work with the VE.DLL file with version 2.2, but not 3.0.
While the Mist World client after 2025 and the second package supports Expressive V2 voices, voices that are above 1.X in their broker string will not work. Use this small zip and copy its contents to the vl folder inside the game to have all non-ML voices work that have voicedata above 1.x, such as supplied in Cerence products. You will lose speech for any Expressive 1.X voice you might have installed in your game, though. To revert this, just re-paste the second package again. You can always check the details tab of your current VE.DLL to know if you have 2.2, or 3.0 active.
To verify if a voice is too new for the 2.2 library, just check the "ve" folder with the .hdr file, as the version number is at the end of that filename. If you got the file from the BlindHelp TTS link or other download pages marked not as Cerence but Expressive v2 voices, all voices there are of the initial Expressive V2 release and not above it. You'll know if the voice isn't compatible because it will refuse to speak inside the game as you cycle among voices.

Vividizer for 3D audio

If you would like Mist World to output with more spacialness, a recommended product is Vivaldi 3D's VIVIDIZER (14-day trial, $39.99.) main Vividizer site

A Vividizer Installation Guide exists here created by the amazing folks at Onward Mobility. It also includes an accessibility update which makes the sliders more accessible.
Do not install this program without first reading the instructions on that page, particularly about changing your screen reader output to another device prior to hitting "next." Wiki admins or others are not responsible if you act too quick.
If you wish to listen to a demo of the two main 3D modes offered, click here.
